BIOGRAPHY
Potash, a Nevada native, was born in Reno in 1968 and started
playing the fiddle at the age of eight. "I remember watching Johnny Cash perform
a vocal rendition of The Orange Blossom Special on television when I was very
little," Potash says. "That is what initially peaked my interest in music, but
at age seven I was introduced to fiddle playing by a family that lived down the
street in Reno. They played various kinds of instruments and the music was
mainly Blue Grass," he says. "It was around that time that I asked my parents
for a violin."
In 1982 Potash, went to music camp in Redding, Calif. where he studied with the
Jacoby family. It was there that Potash became interested in competition. When
Potash returned to the music camp a year later in 1983, he was no longer a
student, but an instructor for the Jacoby's.
Potash, won his first fiddle contest at a local Blue Grass Festival. Soon after,
he placed in the top 20 of the National Old Time Fiddlers Contest, Potash honed
his skills for years in competition and private study and has earned numerous

Champion", by the Old Time Fiddle Association of Nevada. Although retired from
fiddle competition, Potash performs for benefits and charities such as the
